Your Relevance Without
Happy new month to you. Trust February was awesome with you and you found relevance in the church from the few thoughts I shared with us last month. We discussed about looking forward to seeing opportunities in the body of Christ to raise and then to restore men in, and back to God’s intention for their lives. We exist as supporting systems to ourselves.
This month, let’s take another look into the possibility and necessity of being relevant outside the body of Christ. In January, I emphasized the fact that not everyone will maximize the pulpit as a place of relevance… not everyone. Many will be in the business arena, others in banking, and others in different areas of human endeavor and as such, are required to reveal Christ wherever they or we may be.
See the accounts of Apostle Peter in His letter to God’s people living as foreigners. (1Peter 2:9, NLT):
But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show OTHERS the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.
Now, this epistle was written to those who have found themselves living as foreigners. As the scriptures imply for us that …we are in the world but not of the World… Jesus too says in tenth chapter of Matthew’s Gospel, “…look, I am sending you out as sheep among wolves…” (v 16).
See, our living on earth, will bring us into systems, atmospheres, and cultures that negate our belief and the instrumentality of our faith. We don’t run away from such, instead we dive in being “…Shrewd as snakes and harmless as doves…” Our faith determines how we engage in these corrupt systems. So how do we do it?
LIGHTEN: this means to show light. To reveal a true pattern. In Physics, we have learnt that we see by reflection. In essence, if light does not fall on an object, we cannot see what it is because we don’t see any reflection… That is what believers are called to do; help the unbelievers see the light. Many are in oblivion of the truth that sets them free because no one has done any duty to shed light. “…The people in the land of Zebulun have seen a great light…” Let people see the correct way to live. They must see Christ in us. (1Cor. 10:31).
SAVE: the culmination of all our service on earth is to save men. Jesus commanded us in the same Matthew’s gospel in the twenty-eight chapter, “…to go into the WORLD and make disciples of all Nations…”
So, our duty on earth requires that we do such. We tell people about Christ whether in chains or freedom as Paul did (Acts 28:24, 28). You have been commissioned by God to do gospel work. Lead men to Christ in all that you do.
So, your labour outside the body of Christ is dual; Lighten Men and to Save them! Be an expression of Jesus to a dying world. God waits on you. The whole creation beckons on you to find relevance in and out of the church so that your father in heaven will be glorified! Men must be redeemed not destroyed. Reach out today and always to teach others about the kingdom of God and the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Shalom!
