NIGERIA MY COUNTRY, NIGERIA MY PRIDE!!!
Nigeria our country, our great love.
You were, are and will always be meant for greatness.
The sacrifices made for your will never go in vain.
We love you so and worship your every strength.
You give us everything yet we suffer you, you show us love yet we quarrel amongst ourselves, destroy our images and we create a big divide amongst ourselves.
Yes we know we are people of love and happiness but we seem to forget that.
We embrace violence as a means of peace and campaign yet we have so much love in our hearts.
With all the sweat and blood spilled on your behalf we value not our freedom and treasures. You have given us so much in terms of natural resources and home yet we bleed you still.
Our sweet motherland, radiant with so much beauty that can’t be compared with any other, your atmosphere and weather has the perfections of four countries yet you are still low on the charts in terms of migration recommendation.
Your bosom is always open for consumption by your children yet we replace not what we have taken.
We are known to export our needs while we import our produce.
We suppress our talents while some others flee to terrible conditions.
Your talents, our talents can’t be counted but we don’t seem to make much use of them.
We dislike ourselves and advertise our hatred for one another yet we are so full of love.
We find reasons to distinguish ourselves from our fellow man yet we are our brother’s keeper.
We are fun loving but sometimes fun loving gets the better of us.
We litter our streets, your streets but we clean the streets of strangers in foreign lands and take great pride in doing it.
We have forgotten the vision you have for us but we hope for its reality.
Some of us still show the love you have for us while some of us consume it and replace it with something else.
We find ways of laughing away our sadness also our trials and hard times make good jokes.
We mock our leaders yet we stand by them because of what they have in their pockets.
We are not afraid to show the world who we are, neither are we scared of complaining to the world about our votes.
We know no man is meant to complain about his choices but we do that to the world.
Yes we also know we voted for him and we should support him but you have to admit we do try to do that sometimes.
We as Nigerians, your children are the most resourceful, adaptive and talented sets of being in this world we just don’t know it yet or maybe we just haven’t been given room to explore.
I know this, we are yet to tap our brilliance yet we still come out on top.
We have been rundown, envied, hated, roughed up, discriminated against,
over worked, tried, neglected, discouraged but we still stand strong.
Our bond can be strong we just have to be patient with ourselves and unite.
We can respect our neighbor’s right to live his life but still be his protector, we can rebuke him when he does wrong but still watch his back.
We look forward to the day when there will be no more brother fighting brother over a party flag or sister ditching sister cause of a bag, no more sitting and waiting for a free lunch, no more lies on TV and no more voicemail activities.
We have wealth in abundance yet we do meager jobs in foreign lands for lowest pay.
They say it’s a better life out there because their safety and success isn’t guaranteed here. They say they want to stay out of harm’s way but I ask should there be a harm’s way?
Maybe it is a lot to ask in our blessed country Nigeria. What do you think sweet motherland?
Sometimes I see us on TV begging criminals to negotiate with us, they threaten our lives, harm us and hinder our freedom yet we forgive them.
Sometimes I wonder what would happen when we have no more cheeks to turn, when we are at a corner and we have nowhere to be pushed to.
We want to love our country once more, we want to know no fear, we want no more quarrels, and all we want is peace and unity.
We do remember we have an anthem and a pledge but I don’t think we remember the words.
We do not trust ourselves anymore yet we won’t try to earn the trust.
Nigerians we are love, we are happiness and we are joy, let us stop wasting our talents but encourage and build it in the stead.
We are quick to follow the bad examples our elders set yet we would not follow their good examples.
We give foreigners benefits which we haven’t enjoyed yet we rub our faces in their messes.
We are survivors in our country and strugglers in other countries.
They refine our talents and reap the benefits yet we celebrate what never benefitted us.
Our desperation and need for success drives us to dark measures, I pray we find our way out of it.
Our people want to be proud citizens some just don’t care.
Some people want to be patriots, some want to express themselves, some are always angry, some are aggressive and some are ashamed.
We want to experience the joy and happiness that comes with a prosperous country but the standards haven’t been set yet.
In all of these I realize that we always have hope and we would always love our country Nigeria.
One Nigeria!!! One Nation!!! One Union!!!
